Cascade
Arrange more than one thermal zone across a rack, pod, cluster or data center.
AI data centers · power & water
AIPODSX combines modular compute with Valora thermal cascade valorization—recovering useful energy from compute heat to help produce fresh water.
U.S. provisional patent filed September 2026

01 · The constraint
A 100 MW AI campus must reject approximately 100 MW of continuous thermal energy.
Conventional designs discharge that energy through cooling systems, often consuming water while communities are already balancing power, water and land constraints.
02 · Thermal cascade valorization
Thermal energy is collected in stages, lifted to a useful return temperature and transferred to multi-stage thermal distillation.
Arrange more than one thermal zone across a rack, pod, cluster or data center.
Maximize the useful return temperature while protecting compute equipment.
Put recovered energy to work in fresh-water production instead of rejecting it.
03 · 100 MW screening case
The concept increases the useful work obtained from the same power supply: first compute, then fresh-water production.
~130,000 tonnes CO₂/yr potentially avoided versus directly fired thermal desalination.
No cooling-tower water loss within the stated system boundary.
Screening basis: 25°C seawater feed, 65°C top-brine temperature, GOR 5 and continuous availability. Values require vendor and pilot validation.
04 · Technology refresh by design
Modular boundaries allow technology refresh at the server, rack or entire pod level while Valora remains integrated with the energy and water infrastructure.
Refresh compute hardware without replacing the surrounding infrastructure.
Group thermal loads into practical cascade stages and service boundaries.
Deploy modular ISO-based compute capacity with integrated heat recovery.
05 · Near-shore implementation example
06 · Strategic fit
Data centers above 1 MW are expected to reuse waste heat where technically and economically feasible.
Valora links compute growth to measurable energy reuse and fresh-water production.
The same infrastructure investment supports digital capacity and water resilience.
07 · The next step
Pelican Engineering is seeking hyperscaler, compute-system, water technology and infrastructure partners for an AIPODSX pilot.
